Sukkot Izbica

2026

In 2022, as part of the Kuczka Project, a group of local residents and I dismantled one of the last remaining balcony sukkahs in Izbica in order to protect it from planned demolition. Since then, a number of events aimed at the residents of Izbica have taken place as part of the Kuczka Project. In 2026, the activities took place during the Jewish festival of Sukkot and focused on oral history. The ground-level sukkah I designed was built with the help of local residents and became a space for sharing oral histories. Set against the autumn landscape, the colorful tent, covered with a roof of leaves, attracted the attention of residents while also creating an opportunity to meet and talk about the history of the town and the memory of its Jewish inhabitants who were murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust.

The oral history interviews were conducted by Patrycja Dołowy from the Miszpucha Foundation and Agnieszka Nieradko from the Fundacja Zapomniane and donated to the collection of the Anna Platto Municipal Public Library in Izbica.

Partners: Miszpucha Foundation, Zapomniane Foundation, Formy Wspólne Foundation, Bildungswerk Stanisław Hantz, Primary School in Izbica, Municipal Public Library in Izbica, SOKiS Izbica. As part of the Wspólna Izbica (Shared Izbica) project, funded through the SYNERGIE programme of the National Centre for Culture and the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute in Poland.
