Polish Painting, Series of collages
The series of collages was based on an album on art, which was published under the title “Polish Painting” in 1961. The publication by Michal Walicki included a selection of black-and-white reproductions of Polish art from the Gothic, Renaissance, and early Mannerist periods, mainly devoted to religious subjects. I used the reproductions to create my reinterpretations of the representations established in art history. Deconstructing religious Imaginarium, I transform them into new personal meanings.
I understand spirituality as the object of a continuous process of becoming, so also the forms of experiencing it have a lot to do with the creative process for me. In the presented series of collages, in addition to fragments of reproductions, I use colorful landscapes created in the ebru water painting technique. This is a technique, with the help of which I introduce into religious iconography an encounter with the Middle Eastern cultural circle.
