Biesy, hand-formed neon series
Wandering lights hovering over fields and wetlands have, for centuries, evoked associations with the supernatural. Their appearance was believed to signal the presence of the spirits of the dead. Contemporary science explains the phenomenon as the spontaneous ignition of gases, such as phosphine and methane, produced during the decomposition of organic matter.
These fireflies, never captured by the camera, became a starting point for my reflection on the need to sacralize natural spaces, deeply rooted in local spirituality. They evoke a landscape of non-places of memory that coexists with a world of technological development.
The Biesy series is an artistic installation composed of 6 handmade neon works. Gas enclosed in organic glass forms emits a vivid, pulsating light. The accompanying sound installation uses recordings of electrical discharges, similar to those that can be heard in fields near high-voltage power lines.
